Reto, the Hong Kong-based company that licenses the Kodak brand, has announced a new 35mm compact film camera - the Snapic A1.

The $99 USD camera comes in dark gray or ivory white and has a simple plastic body with a Kodak logo, xenon flash, and small optical viewfinder. It uses a three-element 25mm glass lens with a fixed f/9.5 aperture and a shutter speed set at 1/100 second.

Focus is controlled through a two-step zone system: one setting for subjects between 0.5 and 1.5 metres, and another that relies on the lens’s depth of field for general and landscape use.

A switch next to the shutter button allows double exposures by capturing two images on a single frame. The camera also includes a built-in flash but no hot shoe, so external flash units cannot be attached.

On the top plate, a small OLED display shows battery level, remaining exposures, and focus mode. A rear LCD provides similar basic information.

Reto says the camera can shoot around 10 rolls of 24-exposure film using two AAA batteries.

The Snapic A1 follows other Kodak-branded models produced by Reto, including the Ektar H35 and the Charmera released earlier this year, which sold out in record time.

Compared with those, the Snapic A1 offers a few additional features and shoots standard 35mm frames rather than half-frame. It will be available in a choice of colours rather than randomised packaging.
