Kase filters is branching out beyond filters and smartphone lenses to 'proper' lenses - with the announcement that the company is set to release its first lens, the full-frame manual focus Kase 200mm f/5.6 Reflex mirror lens.

The new glass is available for Sony E, Nikon Z and Fuji X mounts, with more to come in the future, including Canon EF, Canon RF and Fuji GFX.

The Reflex in the title refers to the 200mm being a catadioptric lens. Essentially, a reflex lens has internal mirrors to reproduce the effect of a longer focal length without increasing physical size of the lens. It’s similar to the construction used in many telescopes.

This style of lens is also known for its unique donut bokeh effect most visible in bright out-of-focus highlights. Lenses of this type typically come with compromises - the main being that they have a fixed aperture.

The 200mm f/5.6 Reflex features six elements in five groups, measures ‎98 x 69 x 69mm, and weighs 424g. It takes a 67mm filter, and as mentioned earlier, is manual focus only.
