C+A Global has announced the release of the HP FilmScan 7-inch Touch Screen Film Scanner, an updated version of its entry-level film digitising device that features a larger display aimed at improving ease of use.

The new model follows the earlier 5-inch FilmScan scanner and keeps the same self-contained, beginner-focused design.

The key change is an adjustable 7-inch touchscreen, replacing the smaller display used on the previous version. The larger screen is intended to make it easier to preview scans, navigate menus and apply basic adjustments when working through rolls of film.

The FilmScan 7 is designed for home use rather than professional or archival workflows. It supports 35mm, 110 and 126 negatives and slides, and allows users to adjust brightness and colour directly on the scanner without the need for a computer. An HDMI output is also included for viewing scans on an external monitor or television.

Image capture is handled by a 13-megapixel sensor, positioning the scanner for casual digitising and sharing rather than high-resolution reproduction.

Australian pricing for the FilmScan 7-inch Touch Screen Film Scanner has not yet been confirmed, but based on overseas pricing, it should retail for around AUD $400.

Local availability is expected later in the year. We'll update the story once we have local pricing confirmed.
