Fujifilm has announced its newest lens - the XF 50mm F1.0 R WR. The prime lens is the world's first f/1 lens for mirrorless cameras with autofocus, and Fujifilm's 35th X-mount lens.

Weighing in at 845g, the lens is dust, moisture and freeze resistant down to temperatures of -10°C.

Inside there are 12 elements in nine groups, including one aspherical element and two extra-low dispersion (ED) elements.

With a maximum aperture of f/1.0, the XF50mmF1.0 R WR makes it possible for the autofocus to operate at -7EV luminance level, which is (according to DPReview) dimmer than a night lit by a quarter moon.

The XF50mmF1.0 R WR also has a focus ring that has been designed to be more accurate than any previous XF Lens, making it possible to adjust the focus from the minimum focusing distance to infinity. For this, XF50mmF1.0 R WR uses 120° of rotation in its focusing ring to let allow for more accurate manual focus, and when using Focus Peaking and Focus Assist modes.

The new lens will be available in late September, 2020, and comes with a recommended retail price of $2,799.
