DJI announces its latest smartphone gimbal - The $220 Osmo Mobile 8P
DJI has launched its new Osmo Mobile 8P smartphone gimbal, adding upgraded tracking tools and a detachable remote aimed at creators shooting video on their phones.
The Osmo Mobile 8P features a new accessory called the Osmo FrameTap, a detachable remote with a small display that mirrors the smartphone viewfinder. Users can control the gimbal remotely, adjust zoom and manage lighting settings through the device.
The company said the gimbal’s updated ActiveTrack 8.0 system improves subject tracking in busy environments such as concerts and sporting events. Paired with the new Multifunctional Module 2, the system can also track objects including cars and landmarks, alongside people and pets.
For iPhone users, the Osmo Mobile 8P also supports Apple DockKit, allowing tracking through Apple’s native camera app.
The three-axis stabiliser weighs about 386 grams and includes a built-in tripod and extension rod. DJI says the battery offers up to 10 hours of operation, while a USB-C port allows the device to charge a connected smartphone during filming.
The companion DJI Mimo app includes several shooting modes, including DynamicZoom, Slow Shutter and Action Shot, along with a widescreen 2.35:1 recording option designed to give footage a cinematic look.
The Osmo Mobile 8P is available now in Australia through DJI’s online store and authorised retailers.
The standard combo is priced at AUD$219, while the Advanced Tracking Combo costs AUD$269. A Creator Combo, which includes DJI microphone accessories, is priced at AUD$329.
