Canon launches the EOS R50 - A travel-friendly APS-C mirrorless camera

In addition to the Canon EOS R8 announced today, Canon has also announced the EOS R50, a 24.2 megapixel APS-C camera with 4K/30p video, 15fps shooting and a number of intuitive modes including an automatic in-camera image assist function called Creative Assist.

The lightweight 375g camera features a vari-angle touch screen and uses Canon's Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus II that detects and tracks people, animals and vehicles. This is supported by continuous shooting at 12fps using the electronic first curtain and 15fps silent electronic shutter.

New to the R50 is Creative Assist, a new function which automatically offer suggested settings for different scenes, while a Creative Bracket mode provides 'multiple looks' for each image. This is likely a more user-friendly in-camera bracketing function.

The EOS R50 records UHD 4K 30p video oversampled from 6K. in addition, the camera gains Canon's multi-function hot shoe, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity and webcam functionality. 

Finally, Canon has also announced the RF-S 55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM lens, a compact and versatile RF zoom for the APS-C format.

The EOS R50 has an a RRP of $1399 for the EOS R50 camera single lens kit (RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM) and a RRP of $1699 for a twin lens kit (RF-S 55-210mm F5-7.1 IS STM and RF-S 18-45mm F4.5-6.3 IS STM). This kit will also come with a limited edition camera strap designed as a collaboration with leather maker Status Anxiety.
