Adobe Photoshop rolls out Generative upscale tool and more new features
Adobe has released a series of updates to the Photoshop beta, introducing new AI-powered tools aimed at improving image editing workflows and collaboration.
The updates are available on Photoshop for desktop and web, with some features also in early access on iOS.
Highlights of the update include:
Harmonise
Previously previewed as Project Perfect Blend, the new Harmonise feature uses Adobe's Firefly Image Model to help users add new elements into compositions more realistically.
When an object is added, Harmonise automatically adjusts the color, lighting, shadows and tone to match the surrounding image. This reduces the need for manual adjustments and may be useful for designers, marketers and digital artists working on composites.
Generative upscale tool
The new Generative Upscale tool allows users to increase image resolution up to 8 megapixels while maintaining sharpness and clarity. It is available in beta for both desktop and web versions of Photoshop.
Adobe says the feature is designed for photographers refining edits, or anyone preparing images for print or adapting them for different digital platforms.
Remove tool gets smarter and more precise
The updated Remove tool, now powered by the latest Firefly model, offers improved accuracy when cleaning up images. It can remove unwanted elements and fill in the background more naturally.
Adobe notes that this helps reduce visible artifacts and makes edits look more consistent with the original image.
New Projects feature
A new beta feature called Projects introduces a way to organise creative assets in shared workspaces. Users can group files together, making it easier to manage versioning and collaborate on projects without relying on scattered folders or repeated file sharing. Projects is currently available in the desktop beta.
Model Picker gives more control over Generative Fill
Photoshop's Generative Fill and Generative Expand tools now include a Model Picker option, letting users choose between Firefly Image 1 and Firefly Image 3 models. Each model offers different visual qualities, allowing users to experiment and tailor results to their style or project needs.
These features are now available in the Photoshop beta for desktop and web, with select tools included in the latest iOS version.
