Pat Martin, Waiting (LIGHT/SHADOW - Entries close 30 September 2026)

I love the shapes of cranes and lifting machinery. They seem to suggest sentience, even intention, be it humorous, or even sinister. The subject of this photo seems to be ‘lurking’ outside the dark entrance to a shed, waiting for something to emerge, its shadow enhancing its shape and creating further expectation. The shadows of corrugations on the shed cladding add further interest to the image. Meanwhile a cloud seems to be watching from above, the combined effect of the elements of the image suggesting a suspension of time. I converted the colour photo to black and white.
