Susan Astor-Smith, The Female Gaze (People 2021)

The Female Gaze is a project I've been working on photographing women of a certain age. I ask my subjects to wear black and photograph them against a black background using natural light. My objective is to show the beauty of the lived experience in the faces of these women and to represent the faces of older women who are rarely portrayed as subjects in photography or art.

Images have been resized for web display, which may cause some loss of image quality. Note: Original high-resolution images are used for judging.
