This shot was taken from a kayak. Ingredients required for this shot are glassy conditions, that nice soft afternoon light and a little swell to create depth and partially obscure the calm Southern giant petrel. This species is known for its aggressive nature and feeding strategies. Whether that's hanging out at seabird colonies searching for lone chicks or harassing birds that have already caught a meal. Risking a little saltwater bath for the camera, the kayak allows for wonderful low-angle shots in between the waves. Kaikoura, NZ.
