Deborah Pearse, Tawny Survivors (Wildlife and Animal 2019)
Tawny Frogmouth are resilient birds, forming close bonds that are not always blood related. Tawny chicks in care form surrogate families while older birds will often pair with another bird. Unlike most birds they are quite tolerant of humans and are a common, if not hard to spot, feature of many a backyard. They have amazing camouflage skills but their tendency to fly low at dusk hunting moths in urban areas puts them at great risk with cars.
