Mark Kriedemann, Sweeping The Spit (October theme: Lines)
Waves sweep beneath the pier at The Spit on Queensland’s Gold Coast, forming aggressive yet graceful curved lines as they drag sand along the beach in flowing ribbons of whitewater. With the using of a 1/4 second shutter speed, the movement of the ocean is accentuated while the structure of the pier remain sharp. Use of this shutter speed was made difficult by the buffeting wind and my own inclination to shiver in the evening air. The contrasting energy of the wavers with the static pose of the pier was a strong prompt for me to capture this scene. Photographed with a Nikon Z7 II and NIKKOR Z 14–30mm f/4 S.
