Ngaire Hart, Surving the Snow Storms (ANIMAL & NATURE 2024)

Adelie Chicks are distinuished by white rings around their eyes. These were in a snow storm in Antarica and doing whatever they could to keep warm. Adelie's hatch in late December and join a creche at 3 weeks, however less than 2/3 rds make it to this stage. By mid February they have adult feathers and head out to sea. The top photo is an adult with attitude, the second one looks like it has a mowhawk, third is asleep with eyes closed and last is positioned out of the wind and getting covered in snow.
