John Dalton, Summer Work (May theme: Seasons)
Warm days and summer rains bring peanut crops to their vivid best before flowering and setting nuts. Tyre-high in green cultivation, the small tractor is selected to lightly till the rows for summer weeds. Compared to other farm operations, it is a relaxed task devoid of the time constraints that follow. The green and red colours in this photo are emblematic of the summer colours of the South Burnett. They convey a “between” time of lush growth between early summer planting and harvest in the cool dry of late autumn. Although the tractor was working a long distance away in the paddock, use of a 500mm lens made him appear much closer and compact the surrounding detail.
