Joel Aston, Sleeping Beauty (November theme: Portrait)

nspired by the work of Nick Fancher I created this capture using two bench seats around 600mm high with clear plastic sheeting (from Bunnings) pulled tightly over the top. By keeping the length of the plastic reasonable (again around 600mm) this allowed plenty of room for the model to access the space and feel comfortable. She laid on a black material background with a thin mattress underneath. The bench seats also provided great tripod support with direct downward shooting capability. I chose this lens as it allowed me more freedom to zoom in and out depending on the look I was going for. Metadata embedded but shot on Canon R3, 24-105mm f4-f7.1 lens at 85mm, 1 second at f7.1 We were able to get a range of shots and experimented with slower shutter speeds, different focus points, different droplet combinations, colour leds and different lipsticks. Whilst I love some of the colour ones I am constantly drawn back to this capture. She looks so peaceful, like sleeping beauty. I am a photography student studying Diploma Photography & Photo Imaging at the Photographic Institute.
