Mark Kriedemann, Passing the Bench (ENTRIES CLOSED - April theme: Night light)

Walking into Surfers Paradise on Friday night recently, I thought I'd change things up from my usual street photography oriented mindset and do a bit of slow photography. The aim was to use the extreme high contrast of the Gold Coast nightscape in monochrome to create some more minimal shots. In this case, I failed to achieve minimalism, but the slow shutter speed I was using was helpful in painting the scene with streaks of light. Holding the camera steady for half a second, before moving it to the left, I was able to achieve this streaking effect. By shooting wide, I also added distortion to the image, which gave the streaks a bend.
