Mark Kriedemann, Not Simply Red (ENTRIES CLOSED - July theme: Colour)

Sunset from Krabi in Thailand transitions into surreal shades of magenta and red due to heavy humidity. By walking into the shallow surf and shooting from a couple of feet about water level, I aimed to capture the almost oily texture of the water while using a distant silhouetted ship as a counterpoint to the dull luminance of the setting sun. While I've take many similar compositions before, the colour of the sun and surrounding scene in this photo was unlike anything I've had the chance to capture before, which drew me strongly to get a shot.
