Aurelia King, My Father's Portrait (August Theme: People)

“My Father’s Portrait” My father has been hospitalised since April due to a fall and subsequent deterioration in health, contributed to by Parkinson’s - resulting in his absence from our home and isolation without visitors due to the NSW lockdown. It is his absence in the portrait that has the capacity to evoke an intense desire to compensate, and what is missing ultimately becomes the protagonist of the image. The work has a universal place, relatable to those who feel the heavy absence of people they hold close, who they are missing due to the pandemic.
