Western Australia is one of the last shark strong holds left in the world. With a relatively large population in a wide range of species, these sharks have been generally left to roam. In the last few years, the North West waters of Western Australia has seen a large increase in illegal fishing vessels entering Australian waters and harvesting sharks for their fins. Fishermen have been forced to leave their local waters as these keystone species no longer frequent those reefs. What will be in store for Western Australia in the years to come and when will the demand for these fins end?
