Christopher Shaw, Mr (SINGLE SHOT 2023)
In 1937 Harold Cazneaux photographed this River Red Gum in the Flinders Range just north of Wilpena Pound. He named the photo "Spirit of Endurance". A perfect title for this tree. It still remains there little changed from the day Cazneaux photographed it and had could have been living there for 1,000 years previously enduring the heat, drought, periodic flooding and cold of the outback. I visited this tree day after day for months finally being able to capture it as the sun set one cloudy day in May 2023 almost a hundred years since Cazneaux's epic photograph was taken.
