Vanessa Haines, Morning Catch (ENTRIES CLOSED - December theme: Your favourite shot of '25)

This photograph was taken in Hafnarhólmi Iceland the eastern most side of the country and home to one of the larger puffin colonies in Iceland. To make this trip a successful one given I have to travel 1.5hrs one way to see this puffin colony I woke up at 4am to travel to this colony as puffins are only on land during the morning and evening, spending the rest of the day in the ocean for the few months they come to land for mating season. And despite being very cold this was a beautiful and peaceful experience that I greatly enjoyed with a few other photographers. In this photograph the puffin had just landed after catching his breakfast and is still fresh from the ocean, this was definitely one of my favourite photos of the year
