Abhik Basu, Mammals of the Little Rann of Kutch (ANIMAL & NATURE 2023)
The Wild Ass Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Little Rann of Kutch in the Gujarat state of India. The Rann of Kutch is a sealine desert which gets flooded during the monsoon every year - it is one of the last locations where the Indian Wild Ass (locally called 'Khur') can be found. Although it is a barren and arid landscape dotted with salt pans, it supports a surprisingly large variety of flora and fauna. I spent five days in January 2023 photographing the wildlife in this area. This submission contains photos of 4 mammals found in the park - Desert Fox, Striped Hyena, Nilgai and the Indian Wild Ass.
