Deborah Costley, Living in Suburbia (ENTRIES CLOSED - June theme: Home)
Pecan and Valentino began life beneath a heat lamp before moving into their first home, a little purple coop on stilts. Inside was fresh straw, while underneath provided shelter and grain during the day. They learned to follow the big chickens home each evening and watched darkness arrive through their side window. The ramp lifted them safely above the ground and the foraging creatures of the night. Still learning the ways of outdoor life, they dreamed of a future beyond suburbia—trees, a pond, ducks, and many chickens, perhaps under the watchful eye of King Drake. P.S. The owner knows we are roosters. We suspect that is why the country is being mentioned so often.
