Mark Kriedemann, Lineage (October theme: Lines)
Among the tangled vegetation near the centre of a wetland lake, an adult Moorhen leads its two chicks across a small patch of soil. The scene is filled with an intricate network of natural lines, dominated by the gradient of the soil ridge. I was particularly drawn to the way these lines create a visual connection between the three birds. The adult occupies one side of the frame, while the two chicks follow at different distances, their positioning forming a subtle diagonal that guides the viewer's eye through the scene. Against the complex and chaotic scene, the small family provides a moment of connection and purpose, illustrating how the lines within a photograph can contribute not only to its composition, but be a core part of the story.
