Milo Strangio, Greenhouse (April Theme: Garden)

Depicted here nestled amongst playful carnivorous wonders, and subtle leafy ground covers, lies one of the most beautiful greenhouse gardens I have ever experienced. Housed at the Royal Botanical Gardens Victoria, this inner-city gem is home to some of the most extravagant tropical glories, as well as the bespoke 'Corpse Flower' - which attracts queues when it goes into its blooming phase. The corpse flower does not have an annual blooming cycle. The bloom emerges from, and energy is stored in, a huge underground stem called a "corm." The plant blooms only when sufficient energy is accumulated, making time between flowering unpredictable, spanning from a few years to more than a decade. On top of that, the flower only lasts a precious 12-48 hours, and so is a wonder to behold if ever given the chance. My photograph seeks to capture all that is a greenhouse; the humidity, the rich smells, the leafy foliage and dampness that hangs in the air.
