Clancy Read, Great Arid Land (June theme: Australian Landscape)

This image was taken on my placement in Broken Hill during my 4 week placement working at the local hospital as a Medical Student. In this image we see dead trees where a large lake once occupied. It is almost like looking into the future given the current rate of climate change and its effect on Australia. In the city of Sydney, water is rarely seen as finite, but in more rural regions it is clear how vital is water for life. In the past two decades, rainfall in Australia has decreased by 10-20%. Rural communities like Broken Hill are especially vulnerable to drought as they rely heavily on rainfall.
