Ruth Woodrow, Garage Doors (CREATIVE 2022)

I’ve always thought that garage doors were nothing other than a barrier between the outside world and whatever lay within. However, in wandering the streets, I have come to realise that the garage door is as much a thing in its own right, full of colour and variation. Sometimes bashed and bent, sometimes covered in street art or simply tagged. Some are plain and boring, others are works of art. I feel a connection to my community when I see these garage doors. I don’t see them as a barrier, but an expression of who they are.
