ANTHONY LAWRENCE, FIRE, ASH AND DUST. THE DAILY CYCLE OF THE MUNDARI CATTLE HERDERS OF SOUTH SUDAN AND THEIR CATTLE. (TRAVEL 2023)

MUCH OF THE LATE AFTERNOON AND EVENING WHEN THE ANKOLE-WATUSI CATTLE RETURN TO THE CATTLE CAMPS TO THEIR TETHERING POSTS IS SPENT APPLYING AND MASSAGING THE CATTLE WITH THE PRECIOUS DUNG ASH FROM THE FIRES. THE ASH ACTS AS A SUNSCREEN AND INSECT REPELLANT. THE DEEP CONNECTION BETWEEN THE MUNDARI AND THEIR CATTLE IS EVIDENT IN THE WAY THEY CAREFULLY TEND TO THEIR CATTLE
