Feathers perform different functions for each bird. Be it insulation, flight as well as controlling the colour of the birds. Each breed has its own unique partly hollow horny shaft fringed with vanes of barbs; an epidermal outgrowth the forms the external covering of the bird whether the feathers are filoplumes, contour or bristles, birds are recognised by it feathers.
