Pia Wylie, Facade (August theme: Reflections)

My artwork involves placing a physical object in the form of a mirror into the natural environment. I’ve always loved photography and photographing the natural environments that surround me, however I wanted to show its beauty in an unconventional way, a way that made people think twice. Without digital manipulation I play with blending and blurring the lines between reality and the reflection of reality via the man-made. I love the idea of allowing a photograph, a seemingly basic 2D medium to show multiple facades. What I photograph comes from reality but is transformed through the way in which I photograph it. I distort and conceal this reality in a way that reveals its pure magnificence, it’s a very paradoxical medium. Through my refelection I aim to evoke a sense of contemplation for the audience and want to allow them to create their own personal journey of wonder, discovery and reflection through the complex and almost surreal images.
