Madeleine Downes, Eight Summers Old (ENTRIES CLOSED - January theme: Summer)

When you’re eight, summers are inside jokes and Zooper-Doopers on hot days. They’re laughs with you brother and groans when you’re dragged to work with Mum. When you’re eight, your whole life if summer, and you could never imagine the leaves turning gold and dry. Summer is just summer, and eight years old is just an eternity that’s somehow gone in the blink of an eye.
