Adrian Stavovy, Echoes (LIGHT/SHADOW - Entries close 30 September 2026)

I’ve long held a fascination with Australia's war history and for photographing Anzac day and this image was captured on one of my visits to the Australian War Memorial, Canberra. On a sunny day I spotted a silhouette of a figure against the bright red lines of poppies, the dates of WW2 above them. To me the image speaks of a sharp sense of the melancholy of lives lost in war carried upon the shoulders of so many across generations. Few edits were made on this image, apart from masking the figure to slightly darken exposure and create more narrative tension. Canon 600D, f 8, 1/1000, 51mm, ISO 400
