Benjamin Hams, Consumed by Dust (ENTRIES CLOSED - August theme: Weather)

Dust storms aren't something we see all that often in this part of South Australia, but at the time we were in the middle of an intense drought. The country was incredibly dry, and on this particular day strong winds picked up the loose soil and turned it into an enormous wall of dust. I captured this image as the storm swept through Terowie, slowly swallowing the landscape in front of me. Within minutes, everything disappeared behind a thick haze of red dirt. It was an incredible sight to photograph, but also a pretty confronting reminder of just how dry the country had become.
