Kirsty Livingstone, Coming home (September theme: What Matters to Me )

On the 9th of September 2019 our small coastal town of Peregian Beach was quickly evacuated as an out of control fire raced towards the houses. We were away for 48 hours, unsure what was lost and what we would be returning home to. Over 100 fire trucks attended the blaze, stood their ground and miraculously saved our village. A huge blackened national park remains that was once lush, green and full of life. A child stands amongst the ash imagining what it would be like to be as brave as a fire fighter. Home is what matters to us, and we are so grateful to the emergency services that we still have one.
