Rowan Dear, Colourful Cuttles (ANIMAL & NATURE 2023)

Each year, over 200,00 giant cuttlefish gather on the shores of Whyalla, South Australia for their annual mating season. With a ratio of 10 males to 1 female, competition is fierce. So before the males find a mate you will see anywhere from 2-6 males facing off in a display of color and shape to scare off their rival before they can mate with the female. Sometimes as a couple are mating, several other males will surround them and try and disturb the mating process and try their own luck.
