Mark Kriedemann, Closer Look (ENTRIES CLOSED - February theme: Wild)

A Comb Crested Jacana tilts it's head to peer through the surface of the water in search of prey. Light from the summer sunrise falls on the upturned side of it's face to reveal warm tones on it's neck and the reddish tones of its crest. By waiting quietly in the long grass at the edge of Enoggera Reservoir near Brisbane, I was able to capture some shots well within 10 metres as the Jacana approach my position to search in shallower water. I pushed the iso quite high to iso: 2500 to ensure I had the necessary shutter speed for a strike. However, I found this momentary pause to be the most interesting moment.
