Brodie Weeding, Chalk & Cheese & Brothers (December theme: Portrait)
Chalk and cheese is how most describe us. He’s a tradie, I’m a photographer. He has dreadlocks, I visit a barber regularly. He’s always covered in paint, I wear suits. He smokes weed, I, uh yeah.. Despite our visual differences though, we’ve always been the closest mates. It’s like an unspoken bond, it doesn't matter what happens in our lives or how little we see each other, nothing changes. Recently after losing a close mate of ours a trip to the East Coast was planned for what would have been his birthday. No excuse could get me out of this trip nor did I want it to. An hour into the road trip we stopped for a ‘smoke break’. I took the opportunity to pick the camera up and point it at a man who never has his photo taken. I went to snap quickly before he saw me but for some unknown reason I paused a moment longer, just a moment. It was worth it. I didn’t know it straight away because I didn't look but I knew. It’s impossible to describe how much personality I captured in that moment but the one thing I did capture - a brother.
