Gerry Allen, Cathedrals of the Harvest (May theme: Rural life)
Grain silos stand beside a road near Dalby in the Western Downs Queensland, waiting for the next movement of harvest. Across Australia’s grain regions these structures mark the rhythm of rural life — filling, emptying and filling again as crops move from paddock to market. The parked road trains emphasise the scale of modern agriculture, where distance, machinery and timing shape everyday work on the land. I was drawn to the quiet presence of the site; functional, unromantic, yet monumental in the landscape.
