Grant Brodie, Blizzard of Oz (October theme: Weather)

I camped in the high country during the recent blizzard in the snowy mountains. The snow raged all night outside my tent. I snowshoed to the top of Guthega trig point early the next morning to where a cluster of dead snow gums had been mercilessly blasted by wind, snow and rain to form horizontal icicles on the trees. Only hours after the storm abated and the icicles had started to break off forming marks in the snow at the base of each tree. It was quite surreal because the whistling noises made by the wind and the sounds of the icicles constantly breaking off and hitting the ground. I had to wear a beanie and hat as the icicles hurt if they hit your head on the way down.
