Fiona Pennisi-Mitchell, Anticipation (LIGHT/SHADOW - Entries close 30 September 2026)

'Anticipation' was captured spontaneously when my French Bulldog looked up towards a window, creating a strong contrast between the illuminated side of his face and the darker shadows across the coat. I composed the image to leave negative space in the direction of the dog’s gaze. The photograph was taken handheld using a Canon EOS 600D with a Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II lens at 18mm, 1/250 sec, f/3.5, ISO 3200. The image was processed from the original RAW file using Canon Digital Photo Professional, where it was converted to black and white with minor tonal adjustments, light noise reduction, subtle sharpening and a slight crop to strengthen the composition. No elements were added or removed.
