Jayden Chan, After You (ENTRIES CLOSED - LIGHT/SHADOW)
After You — Photograph Print on Archival Paper A candid moment of a man looking upon his wife for the last time. His reflection mingles with the flowers surrounding her, blurring presence and absence. Monochrome isolates the flowers in colour as a quiet symbol of love, loss and remembrance. The photograph was captured spontaneously on an iPhone 13 through the window of the hearse. Rather than eliminating the reflections in the glass, I embraced them, allowing the flowers, surrounding landscape, sky and mourners to overlap naturally within a single frame. These accidental layers became central to the image, placing the man simultaneously within the physical world around him and alongside the flowers surrounding his wife. The image was edited digitally, primarily converting the photograph to monochrome while selectively retaining the flowers’ original colour. Adjustments were kept restrained to preserve the immediacy of the candid moment. No tripod was used. Camera: Apple iPhone 13 Lens: iPhone 13 camera, 26 mm equivalent Tripod: None Editing: Monochrome conversion, selective colour retention, and minor tonal adjustments.
