Keith Horton, A male Satin bowerbird working on his bower (January Theme: Blue)
Male Satin bowerbirds build specialised stick structures, called bowers, which they decorate with blue objects. Those blue objects are sometimes natural objects such as feathers, flowers, seed-pods and fruits, but more often now artificial items, mostly plastic. Females visit these and choose which male they will allow to mate with them. Photographed on the University of Wollongong campus, New South Wales, Australia.
