The celebration of the world's best photojournalism is set to hit Australian shores later this month.

From 19 July until 17 August, the Brisbane Powerhouse will display a selection of the winning images from World Press Photo 2025.

The competition recently announced an image by Gazan photographer Samar Abu Elouf as Press Photo of the Year.

Her image shows a young Palestinian boy who lost both arms in an Israeli airstrike in Gaza City.

"Mahmoud Ajjour, Aged Nine." Mahmoud Ajjour, who was injured during an Israeli attack on Gaza City in March 2024, finds refuge and medical help in Doha, Qatar, on June 28, 2024.

“One of the most difficult things Mahmoud’s mother explained to me was how, when Mahmoud first came to the realization that his arms were amputated, the first sentence he said to her was, ‘How will I be able to hug you?’” Abu Elouf said when speaking about the image.

The image, and a selection of other winners in the annual competition, will be exhibited worldwide as part of World Press Photo’s annual traveling exhibition.

We also published a gallery of many of the finalists earlier this year, which you can see here.

The Brisbane Powerhouse is located at 119 Lamington St, New Farm QLD 4005. You can find out more here.
