The winning images from the inaugural Southern Flinders Ranges International Travel Photo Contest have been announced.

The contest, run as part of the wider Southern Flinders Ranges Photo festival, seeks to celebrate photography that "depicts the landscape, people, cultures, customs and history that entrants experience from across the globe, either in their daily lives or through their travels."

More than 1,100 entries were received, with entrants competing for a prize pool in excess of $8,000.

Event organiser Ahsan Qureshi said entrants submitted quality, creative and good work.

"I feel sorry for some photographs which not selected in the best 50 as it's a very tough competition!" he said.

The overall winning image was taken by Canadian Thomas Vijayan.
