For 2018/19, the three categories, open, next generation and short film each had a theme: 'Change' 'Identity' and 'Hope', respectively.

“The Nikon Photo Contest asks a lot of questions and one of the main questions was ‘what is the role of photography in the future?’ said Lead Judge, Neville Brody. "The world of photography is continuing to change in our lives, it’s on our phones and it’s everywhere we look. Our world has seen more images than words these days. It’s an international language and it changes and influences the way we are as a people and as a society.”
