Port Hedland-based landscape photographer Sheldon Pettit has been named Australia’s Top Emerging Photographer of 2015, winning $5,000 in cash and a Fujifilm X-T1 and XF 18-135mm lens valued at $2,600. The annual award, presented by Capture magazine, sets out to encourage and promote talented photographers in the early stages of their photographic careers.

Now in it's seventh year, the award comprises nine photographic categories – advertising, architecture, editorial/fashion, landscape, documentary/photojournalism, portrait, sport, student and wedding – and boasts a prize pool of almost $12,000, including cash prizes totalling $9,500.

This year, the competition attracted 607 portfolio submissions across the nine categories and was judged by 46 of Australia's top photographers.

The May/June 2015 print issue of Capture includes a special lift-out with the full list of winners and runners up and selected images from their portfolios. The iPad version includes an expanded Australia’s Top Emerging Photographer section with full portfolios for each winner and runner up.

Australia's Top Emerging Photographer was supported by major sponsor Fujifilm, and category sponsors CATC Design School, EIZO, Momento Pro, the National Portrait Gallery, Sally Brownbill, SUNSTUDIOS, Ted’s Cameras, Western Digital and Zenfolio.
