The G’Day USA organisation is showing indigenous photographer Wayne Quilliam’s images during its 10th Anniversary G’Day USA Black Tie Gala in Los Angeles on January 12. He will join Elle McPherson, John Travolta and Paul Hogan for the event and his imagery of Australia will provide a vivid backdrop for it.

Quilliam’s work has been recognised throughout Australia and internationally. His award-winning career includes the coveted Indigenous Artist of the Year, Business of the Year and many photographic and art awards. Quilliam is also the winner of the Human Rights Media Award, a Walkley Award and he has been nominated as a Master of Photography by National Geographic. He has created and curated over 130 exhibitions throughout the world and been published in more than 1000 magazines, books and newspapers. Quilliam is currently a National Ambassador for the Year of Literacy, with the National Centre of Indigenous Excellence and Reconciliation Australia. He will also open a new exhibition in New York on January 18 at the Australian Embassy.

Quilliam strives to unify his subjects and his audience through his artwork. “I describe my art as ‘ideas people belong to’, each and every artwork has a different persona which encourages people to belong to a concept, to the creation stories, and to our indigneous culture”, says Quilliam. “The opportunity to again showcase my work to US is an honour. The G’Day LA visuals are centred on my landscape artwork, the beauty of our nature and the land we nurture. The New York show will be a combination of three different styles of work - nudes, culture and earth”.

G’Day USA is an annual program designed to showcase Australian artists from many fields in the USA. The 2013 program brings business, government, environment, innovation, culture and tourism events to seven cities (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Sacramento, New York, Chicago, Houston and Boston) with the goal of strengthening bilateral collaboration and new business opportunities.
