Leica has released a new “super zoom” compact. The Leica V-Lux 3 houses a Leica DC Vario-Elmarit 25-600mm (equivalent) f/2.8-5.2 ASPH lens and a newly-developed 12.1-megapixel CMOS image sensor.

The camera can capture Full HD video (1920 x 1080p) and has a maximum still shooting speed of 12fps at full resolution.

On the back the 3-inch, 460,000-dot monitor is fully articulated to allow easy shooting at ground level and above head height.

It will be available in January 2012 with an RRP of $1049.
