Sony has unveiled its third in a series of 30x zoom compacts, the Cyber-shot DSC-HX80.

The new camera features a high-resolution 18.2-megapixel 2 Exmor R CMOS Sensor and a retractable electronic viewfinder as on the DSC-HX90V.

Sony says the HX80 also features a high-resolution, 921k dot LCD screen that tilts a full 180 degrees for shooting arms-length portraits or “selfies” and is Wi-Fi/NFC compatible.

The HX80 has a 30x ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T optical zoom lens (equivalent 24-720mm range) with 60x 'Clear Image' digital zoom capability and has 5-axis image stabilisation to minimise the effect of camera shake.

Full HD movie shooting capabilities are available including high-speed XAVC S format at 50 Mbps and a built-in pop-up flash is fitted for assisting shooting in low light conditions.

The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX80 is expected to be available in April.
