The fourth annual Shot In The Heart of Melbourne street photography exhibition returns to the Victorian Artists’ Society in the last two weeks of March.

Enthusiasts of street photography and photojournalism should make some time to visit the fourth Shot in the Heart of Melbourne street photography and photojournalism exhibition, running from March 19 to 30 at the Victorian Artists’ Society in East Melbourne.

Christine Wilson, an exhibitor and one of the team of volunteers curating the 2015 exhibition, says Shot in the Heart of Melbourne is now a regular feature of the Melbourne photography exhibition scene.

"It began simply, with a couple of friends with a love of Melbourne who were keen to share their passion for capturing the true vibe of the city," says Wilson. "This year’s our fourth exhibition, and it has more than 30 contributors displaying in excess of 200 images."

Wilson says last year’s exhibition was extremely successful. "We’ve picked up new members from gallery visitors and social media sites."

A guest speaker at the opening of the exhibition at 7pm, Friday, March 20, will be Clive Scott, Manager of the Sofitel Melbourne. The Sofitel has an extensive arts focus in Melbourne, and Mr Scott has played a pivotal role in promoting photography and other arts work in a number of exhibitions at the hotel.

The exhibition includes a wide variety of street photography and photojournalism. Exhibitor Eko Julianto says he is not a 'purist' street photographer.

"I’m just a guy with a camera documenting the life around me," he says.

Fellow photographer Emma McPherson believes this genre of photography is about instinct, insight and anticipating the best time to click the shutter – ideally without getting caught: "We just love what we do, capturing and sharing."

The works are for sale directly from the photographers and through the gallery. The Victorian Arts Society is located 430 Albert St, East Melbourne. It’s open weekdays from 10am to 4pm, and on weekends from 1pm to 4pm. Further details can be found on the Shot in the Heart of Melbourne website: http://www.sithom.com.au
